Dr Sriram Shankar trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Middlesex Hospital in London and subsequently worked at the Brompton Hospital in London, Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dr. Shankar was the recipient of Dr Rama Rao Gold Medal Anatomy in 1978, First Prize of Honor in Microbiology in 1980.
Dr. Shankar moved to Singapore in September 1990 but returned to England in 1995 to further specialise. During this stint, he spent a year with Dr. William J Brawn FRCS and Dr. B Sethia, FRCS at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Dr. Shankar has since helped establish the Paediatric Cardiothoracic service at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he was the Head of services till March 2009. Dr. Shankar has had extensive experience with Adult Cardiac Surgery, having performed over 1000 off-pump procedures for patients with Coronary Artery Disease. He is trained to undertake Valve restorative operations for both Children & Adults, with vast experience in patients with aortic disease, especially aneurysm surgery and surgery for acute type 1 aortic dissection.
Dr Shankar has trained, developed services, and build capacity in Cambodia, Vietnam and Bangladesh.
Dr Shankar has presented and published several articles. Dr. Shankar’s interests are in adult Cardiothoracic surgery, adult vascular surgery, paediatric Cardiothoracic surgery and paediatric vascular surgery. He has developed Minimally Invasive Cardiac surgery in both children and grown up’s.
