Dr Yap, who has been practising dentistry since 1985, is specialised in prosthodontics. She pursued her bachelor degree in NUS as a Public Service Commission scholar, and worked in Singapore General Hospital and National University Hospital. In 1988 she was sponsored by NUH to pursue a postgraduate degree at the Eastman Dental Hospital, London UK.
Upon her return, Dr Yap served as a Registrar at NUH and contributed to NUS as a clinical supervisor at the Department of Restorative Dentistry from 1989-1993. After leaving for private practice in 1993, she has volunteered for several medical-dental missions to Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, China and Mongolia to render free dental services to the underprivileged in orphanages and non-governmental organisations. She had also served in the executive committee of the Association of Women Doctors (Singapore) from 2004-2009.
